Dear Chamber Members and Citizens of Chula Vista and the San Diego South Bay Region,
2019 holds the promise of prosperity and growth for Chula Vista.
We are in the final planning stages for our 550 acre bay front expansion with plans under review for over 1800 new hotel rooms, 1492 condominiums, several hundred thousand square feet of meeting and convention facilities as well as 220 acres of new park and natural open space.
On our eastern frontier, Meridian development and the Baldwin Companies are delivering stunning, new, walkable urban centers including award winning housing options, retail and commercial opportunities, and three superb new hotels.
Silvergate and additional builders are executing on the promise of infill development on our west side with contemporary, high-quality housing that can serve both new arrivals and young families.
We are blessed with city leadership that transcends politics, with a Mayor and council that repeatedly demonstrate the willingness and capacity to jointly champion and pursue projects for the common good of our citizens and community, delivering enhanced public safety services and renewed infrastructure, setting a noteworthy example for both our state and federal government.
Our elementary school system is not only one of the best in the state, but in many areas developing innovations and providing template guidance to education professionals and political leaders in both Sacramento and Washington DC.
Sharp Medical Center is nearing completion on a quarter billion-dollar tower that will help maintain Chula Vista’s focal position as one of two key centers of medical excellence within the region and, side by side with Scripps supporting a diverse blend of affiliated and independent clinics offering the finest in cardio-vascular, behavioral, oncological, and orthopedic medicine among others.
The business climate rivals our perfect weather: bright, warm and sunny 90 percent of the year!
Our Chamber, at a spry and energetic 92 will be forging ahead creating partnerships with our regional non-profits, such as the south bay YMCA, to improve family wellness and community quality of life, teaming with PSAR to address our housing needs and initiatives, and the San Diego Regional Chamber, the Port District, the Port Tenants Association, and the South County EDC to support economic growth, deliver improved park land and open space, as well as a robust cross-border economy.
Chula Vista offers a unique and inviting community – one location where individuals and businesses can live, work, play and thrive.
As members of the Chamber of Commerce, walking in the footsteps of our talented past presidents, with the guidance of our diverse and our inspiring Board, sustained by the hard work and energy of our Chamber staff … we can look forward to building robust and lasting business and community alliances, pursuing policies that allow your investments to thrive and grow, and to continue to create a welcoming community that fosters individual health, safety, and pride in well-planned neighborhoods for our growing families.
Warm Regards, William A. Hall
